The General's Lady
Marlene Dietrich - Where Have All The Flowers Gone? courtesy of claudettecolbert60
The General's Lady was my mother
She was indeed very lucky to have been loved truly
Third-generation General, seven foot, four inches tall
Eyes were clear blue, always full of mischief
Red was the colour of his hair and also his skin
In 1970, he was just a Major in the American Army
The only survivor of his squadron, betrayed by greed
Russian gold and diamonds corrupted too many
A grenade minus the pin, held between his perfect teeth
On his flying missions in the Vietnam War
Ensuring his safe journey back to base, my mother's heart
